Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Our Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor detects your baby's slightest movements, even while she sleeps. While it may seem that your baby is perfectly still when she is sleeping, she really isn't.

The under-the-mattress Sensor Pad detects your baby's slightest movements. If your baby goes absolutely still for 20 seconds, the Sensor Pad sends a signal to the Nursery Unit which sounds an alarm alerting you to check your baby. If you are out of the baby's room, the two portable Parents' Units (Sound Monitor) will pick up the alarm as well as other nursery sounds.

In addition, the Nursery Unit has an optional "tic" feature. If the Sensor Pad senses movement, the Nursery Unit will continuously tick. If it doesn't, the ticking will stop. The two Parents' Units give you the flexibility of always leaving one in your bedroom while moving the second unit to the room you are in while your baby is sleeping.

Your crib must have a hard flat surface. If it does not, just place a piece of masonite or a board under the mattress and place the Sensor Pad on top of the masonite and under the mattress. Be sure to place the correct side of the Sensor Pad facing up.

The Angelcare Movement Sensor will give you the peace of mind you won't get from just a sound monitor or even a video monitor. And, this monitor is an excellent value. It is 2 monitors in 1 so you don't have to purchase a sound monitor.

The Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor includes an Under-the-Mattress Sensor Pad, a Nursery Unit, 2 Parents' Units (sound monitor) and 3 AC adapters. It can also operate with 12 AAA batteries (not included).

Amazon.com Review
Parents of preemies and infants at increased risk of SIDS lose a lot of sleep wondering if their babies are still breathing. Even parents of healthy babies experience this kind of anxiety. With its movement sensor pad, sound transmitter, sound lights, and movement detecting "ticking" sound, The Angelcare Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor can take away virtually all this anxiety.

Three Functions, Infinite Peace of Mind
The Angelcare Movement Sensor has three modes of use, enabling parents to use the sensor/sound monitor well into toddlerhood and beyond, if desired. With the Sound & Movement function, you can hear your baby's sounds, see sound lights, and hear a "tic" sound with every movement the baby makes. If no movement is detected, the "tic" will stop and after 20 seconds the alarm will sound. In the Tic Off mode you will not hear the ticking sound with every movement. However, you will still hear the baby's sounds and see sound lights, and your baby's movement is still being detected. An alarm will still sound if absolutely no movement is detected for 20 seconds. And finally, with Sound Only, the movement sensor is disabled, but you will still be able to hear your baby's sounds and see sound lights. In this mode, the Angelcare functions as a regular sound monitor. For many parents, just being able to hear the sighs and squeaks of the newest member of the family is reassurance enough. For those who need more input, for whatever reason, the additional sensory features of the Angelcare can be lifesaving.

How the Angelcare Movement Sensor Works
A sensor pad is placed under the center of baby's crib mattress on a flat, hard surface. The sensor pad cord passes underneath the mattress entirely, exiting the crib in the corner. It is then plugged into the jack of the nursery unit transmitter. The nursery unit can be plugged into an electrical outlet or it can operate with four AAA batteries. The same goes for the parents' unit receivers (two parents' units included). Turn the parents' units on by selecting either channel A or B. Make sure they're set to the same channel as the nursery unit. Set the nursery unit to the desired mode (Sound & Movement, Tic Off, or Sound Only). You may leave one parents' unit in your bedroom and carry the other with you as you move about the house and yard. Now, depending on the function you've selected, you'll be able to keep track of your baby's every sound and movement.

Sound Lights
Indicator lights on an LED sound bar (on the parents' unit) allow you to "see" your baby's sounds if background noises prevent you from hearing baby. As baby's sounds get louder, more lights illuminate.

Optional "Tic" Feature
When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement, it will continuously tick with every movement your baby makes. If no movement is detected by the sensor pad beneath baby's mattress, the ticking will stop.

Movement Indicator Light
The movement indicator light is located only on the nursery unit. When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement or Tic Off, the movement indicator light will flash green with baby's every movement. The flashing green light will let you know that movement is being detected, which will allow you to check on a sleeping baby in the dark.

False Alarms
False alarms are possible with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, especially if instructions have not been followed to a "t". Make sure to turn off the nursery unit after you've taken baby out of the crib. Also, once baby starts being more mobile, she may roll right off the sensor pad area of the mattress. A troubleshooting guide in the instruction manual gives other solutions to false alarms.

Amazon.com
For parents of preemies and babies at greater risk of developing SIDS, the Angelcare Movement Sensor is a lifesaver—literally. A sensor pad goes under baby's mattress and detects baby's slightest movements, even if he is sleeping soundly. If the sensor does not pick up any movement for 20 seconds, an alarm sounds over the two portable receivers and alerts parents. Along with the sensor is a traditional baby monitor that transmits all sound from the nursery to the two receivers. The receivers have a range of up to 200 feet and have light indicators that correspond with the noise level. The monitor and receivers have two channels and low battery indicator lights. Each unit can operate either by four "AAA" batteries or AC adapter (two included). This full-spectrum monitoring system is the recipient of numerous awards and is covered by a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product!   November 8, 2008
We love this product. After 5 1/2 weeks in the NICU with our baby (born at 31 weeks) we were very accustomed our baby being monitored. We bought this product and have been using it for a week now and it works great. We know it probably isn't foolproof, but it is a tool to help us keep the baby safe. For those who complained of false alarms (of which I read many reviews), I would argue that perhaps they weren't false. After our hospital experience, we now know babies do stop breathing. Apnea/Bradychardias are the main reason preemies don't get discharged. Every incident the baby has moves your discharge date back a week. And incidents happen often (mostly while eating, but also while sleeping). If your baby isn't hooked to a monitor, you'd often never realize it. So I believe that many of these "false alarms" people are complaining about are probably legitimate. I highly recommend this product-just keep in mind it is just a tool and diligence is still required in keeping your baby safe.

5 out of 5 stars Must Have   October 19, 2008
This monitor is fabulous. We have the baby in the bassinet right next to our bed, but I still wouldn't sleep as peacefully without this monitor! We haven't had any false alarms (except when I picked her up and forgot to turn it off- it definitely works, nearly gave my husband a heart attack!). I can't say enough good things about it. If you are considering this monitor- just get it!! It could be a lifesaver!

5 out of 5 stars Best monitor   October 8, 2008
Best monitor ever. Gives you peace of mind. Reception is great and clear. Never staticky.

4 out of 5 stars Peace of Mind   October 8, 2008
My husband and I bought this for our firstborn son when he was about 1 month old. We moved him out of our room and into his crib upstairs around that time and we were terrified of SIDS. We were deciding between this and a video monitor. I think this product is wonderful. Sure, there are false alarms. We've had to increase the sensitivity a bit and we still get them. However, being woken up occasionally for a false alarm is much preferred to not being woken up for a true emergency. It also alerts us to times he has rolled to the side of the crib. I find the sound quality superior to our other monitor (Fisher Price Sounds and Lights). Even though the price is a good value, can a price really be put on a parent's peace of mind?

1 out of 5 stars I've lost count of the false alarms.   September 25, 2008

I wanted so much for this thing to work. We are first time parents and like many, were terrified at the thought of sids. We've been using the monitor since our baby was about three months old and have had countless false alarms. Theres no rhyme or reason to when or why the alarm goes off. One day it will go off every half hour whether she on the sensor or not. Then we'll be alarm free for the next three nights. Then we'll have false alarms every night for a week. I can honestly say I havent had a full nights sleep in months and its not due to a fussy baby...its due to a fussy alarm!
We've discussed not using it anymore, but we are both too scared to stop. So yes, it does give us peace of mind, when it works. Unfortunately thats only about 50% of the time.
The worst part is that the alarm goes off in the babys room too, so not only do we get woken up every night, she does too. As a matter of fact the whole reason Im writing this review right now is that the alarm went off when we were both trying to nap,(I need the nap because I had 3 false alarms last night), and now she's wide awake and grumpy and Im just plain angry.
We are on the verge of giving up on this item and today might have just clinched it for me. Would I reccommend this to a friend? A few months ago, maybe. But with all the frustration we've experienced until now, I would probably tell them to save thier money.
